Wood Details
Maple Wood

Maple Wood

  • Characterized by creamy white, light blonde, and dark reddish-brown tones
  • Frequent variations within a single door and side by side cabinets, especially on lighter stains
  • Natural characteristics like fine brown lines, wavy or curly graining, bird’s eye dots, and streaks will darken when stained
  • Typically features uniform graining
Cherry Wood

Cherry Wood

  • Characterized by red undertones with sap pockets, pin knots, curly graining and streaks
  • Frequent variations within a single door and side-by-side cabinets
  • Staining reveals subtle variations and colors that typically darken over time
  • Color ranges from pale yellow sapwood to deep reddish-brown heartwood, with occasional shades of white, green pink, or even gray
  • May accept nicks and bumps over time
Mineral Streaks
Mineral Streaks
Mineral streaks are caused by nutrients that the tree absorbs from the soil. This causes the grain to have olive, brown, or black streaks. Mineral streaks can appear darker or lighter depending on how your cabinetry is finished.
Pin Knots & Sap Pockets
Pin Knots & Sap Pockets
When small branches are torn off a tree or naturally die, the decaying area turns a darker color than the sapwood. These knots are a half-inch in diameter or smaller. This does not affect the quality of your cabinetry.
Aging of Wood
Aging of Wood
Wood ages over time and can lighten, darken, or even change color. Environmental exposures such as sunlight and temperature can age wood faster.
