A great tip from one of our kitchen designers is to add a brick or stone hearth to add warmth to your kitchen. This not only creates a focal point enhancing the look of your kitchen, but can also be helpful to conceal large appliance vents. You can include a stone or brick hearth in any style of kitchen whether you want to create a traditional, modern or transitional look. A hearth makes the kitchen welcoming and gives us the sense that this kitchen really is the heart of the home.

Adding the stone or brick will add an element of texture that will help tie the other design elements in the room together. This will also give your home a very custom look. While a stone or brick hearth creates the element of warmth to a kitchen, white cabinets can help brighten the space and provide great contrast to balance the look like in the picture above.

A Few Design Tips:

1. Craftsmanship

For a stone or brick hearth the craftsmanship is key. Choose wisely and make sure to ask for references and a portfolio of work.

2. Color

Neutral and lighter colors are typically the best choice for your kitchen. The stone or brick hearth is going to be a focal point on its own so you don't need an overwhelmingly dark or light color. What makes stone and brick hearths warm is being natural, so try and stick with that as much as possible.

You can go as large or as small as you want often depending on your vent and the size of your range. Keep your budget in mind as you work with your designer or builder.
