Shaker Cabinets: Why They are So PopularShaker Cabinets: Why They are So Popular

Shaker cabinets have been one of the most popular cabinet styles the past few years and is, by far, one of our bestselling door styles here at Cabinets.com. But, what makes them the most appealing cabinet out there?

History

The Shaker style cabinet was created by the Shaker religious group. They were made to be plain, functional, and durable. The wood used was what was readily available and in abundance, which was usually pine, and was typically stained a light color.

Today's Shaker Style

Today's Shaker cabinets are still plain and unadorned with the simple recessed panel door.

What makes this style so appealing is that the clean and unassuming door lends itself to any design style from country to ultra modern. Shaker cabinets also look great in any room, be it a kitchen, laundry room, or bathroom. Today, Shaker cabinets can be constructed out of a variety of different wood species. Our company manufactures our Shaker cabinets out of Maple or Cherry. We use the Maple primarily for painted finishes and a few stains while the Cherry species is used for stained finishes.

Shaker Kitchen: 3 Ways

To demonstrate the versatility of the Shaker cabinets, I have rounded up a few of our customer's kitchens to show how they are able to transform into whatever style you are wanting.

Above is a great example of a light and airy kitchen achieved by using white Shaker cabinets. This kitchen doesnt scream one style; instead with the use of the Shaker cabinets, it is able to lend itself to whatever style the owner wants it to be. This kitchen would be right at home at a house on the beach as it would in a busy, suburban family home.

The next kitchen is a modern take on the Shaker style. The customer chose sleek, over-sized bar pulls to accent the clean lines of the dark Shaker cabinets.

For a total departure from the typical White Shaker cabinets that are seen the most, we have a customer who created a more masculine look by using Shaker cabinets in a warm wood stain and paired them with a textured, natural colored backsplash. All of these together created a truly beautiful looking space!
