Adding an oversized kitchen island is a great idea for your kitchen no matter what the style. By making a large island the centerpiece of your kitchen you will create a space that is well-designed and functional. If you have an open floor plan this is a great way to contain the kitchen space a bit and create a comfortable atmosphere.
A couple of benefits of an oversized island are increased counter space and the ability to customize your kitchen. A couple of ideas:
Most kitchen islands are designed with seating on one side. With an oversized island, you can add seating on two sides to provide enough seating area for family and friends. If the island is large enough, you can not only have seating, but you can customize the space as well.
Depending on what you're needs and interests are, a large island allows you to further customize your space and create your dream kitchen. One idea is to add an additional sink, cooking space, refrigerator or dishwasher. You could also add a wine cooler or additional storage for cookbooks or small appliances.
Adding an oversized island is also a great way to emphasize your kitchen's style. Using two tones for your cabinets and the island will provide contrast, which will make both your cabinets and your kitchen island stand out. To add a bit of personality to your kitchen island you could choose a bright fabric to upholster stools in or add a painting for a pop of color.
