It's time to think beyond the typical use for cabinets, limiting them to the kitchen and bathrooms. There are so many more uses for cabinets to fit your storage needs throughout your home.

Hallways

If you are lacking in closet space throughout your home but have a few wider hallways, consider putting a few floor to ceiling height cabinets in those spaces. With the cabinets placed throughout your halls, you will have storage for linens, holiday decorations, and any other items that you are always searching for space for! You will need a fairly wide hallway since most cabinets are 18-24" deep.

Window Seat

A small nook or alcove in your home is the perfect spot to add a window seat. You would gain a sitting area but also a place to store blankets or even winter clothes in a bedroom, or serving dishes in a dining room. Our Deerfield® collection of cabinets has various widths available for window seats, making it easy to find your perfect size.

Room Divider

An interesting feature you could place in your home, if you have an open floor plan and are looking for some division between your rooms, would be a room divider made of cabinets. You gain storage and display areas as well as separation between rooms. For a room divider, it has look finished on all sides, so make sure you have the finished panels on the side that won't have the doors. I would recommend adding glass display cabinets on the upper cabinets so that it makes the room feel open and not completely closed off.

Closet as a Home Office

I am a big fan of creating home office spaces in closets. It is so easy and gives you a space to place all your files, office accessories, and other miscellaneous items that tend to stack up around the house. I have a closet as a devoted "office space" in my home with a small cabinet for storage, a counter to place paperwork on, and a few open shelves above and it is hands down my favorite spot in the house. It keeps everything off the kitchen countertops and leaves my home clutter free. Creating an office space in a spare closet is also pretty cost effective since they are typically small in square footage.

Laundry Room/Mud Room

There are a few different cabinets you can use in your laundry room or mud room that will give you additional storage. The first would be to add upper cabinets above your washer and dryer, and if space allows you could fit in a stacked cabinet next to the appliances. With all of this cabinet space, you would be able to store cleaning supplies as well as any other various items that don't have a place anywhere else. Looking for a place to store backpacks, shoes, and sports bags? Consider using our window seat bases along a wall in the laundry room. Adding a cushioned seat and hooks above, your family will have the perfect spot to place all the things they need and it will be in a central location. No more looking for lost shoes or backpacks!
