Serving Dishes

Summer is all about entertaining with backyard barbeques and impromptu pool parties with the neighbors. This time of year, we see a ton of great serving dishes that are bursting with color and pattern and would work well with most other serving dishes and dinnerware you have. The best part is that most of them are made of melamine so you can be worry free taking them from the kitchen to the patio. There is also usually coordinating serving utensils and glassware so you could make it a set! I absolutely love bamboo serving utensils with brightly dipped handles. It's such a fun pop of color. That would even be a simple DIY project… buy plain wooden utensils and buy a small tube of craft paint and make your own!

Area Rugs

Most people place a small area rug at their sink area, or a larger one if the space permits. Area rugs are a great thing to change out based on the seasons because it is quick and inexpensive. Natural fibers are always great in the summer months. Sisal and jute give an island, casual feel and are very durable. If you are looking for a bit more color, retail stores offer so many choices nowadays for rugs. Go ahead and pick up that bright yellow chevron rug you have been eyeing!

Dish Towels

If you are like me, you always have a towel hanging from the oven or near the sink for the occasional spill or makeshift oven mitts. Since towels are such a small part of your kitchen design, it takes a pretty low level of commitment to one style or color. Been dying to add a splash of orange to your all white kitchen but too much color scares you? Pick up some brightly colored dish towels and seeing that small splash of color will make you happy every time you walk in the kitchen!

Summer Scents

Summer is also a great time to put away the woodsy scents of winter and break out the fresh lemon hand soap or refreshing candle that evokes the feeling of being on an island.

There are so many small, easy and best of all, inexpensive things you can do to add summer accents to your kitchen!
