White is "white hot" in design and many will argue but it is considered a color, and a popular one at that! Take a look at any magazine, Pinterest board, or Instagram feed and I guarantee you will find a predominantly white space somewhere. It is the most sought after look right now for almost every room in the home! White has an understated beauty to it, pairing perfectly with soft neutrals or bold graphics. It can frame a space and serves as a jumping off point for design.
Here's a few ways to bring white into the kitchen and bath…
The most popular way you see white brought into a kitchen or bath is with cabinets. White cabinets create the perfect backdrop for the addition of pops of color or pattern or can be partnered together with other neutrals to create a calm environment. That's the beauty of white…its flexibility and ability to go with whatever designs it's paired with. When looking at white cabinets for your kitchen or bath, you can choose a simpler door profile such as a Shaker style door or you can choose a more traditional door that has more molding and trim detail.
Even if you choose darker cabinets, a white tile wouldn't be lost in your kitchen and bath if you plan it right. A simple white subway tile can make an impact when laid in a herringbone pattern. There are so many tile choices for a backsplash with ornate patterns or subtle color variations that mimic mother of pearl for instance. When using white, it's a lesson in pattern and texture, and finding the perfect combination to make it all come together and look stunning rather than bland. If you are selecting a white tile for the floor, a large scale porcelain tile with subtle veining would look phenomenal paired with white cabinets!
You don't have to overhaul your kitchen and bath to bring white into your home. You can easily achieve the elegant look the color brings by introducing accessories and decorative accents into the spaces. In the kitchen, replacing all your mismatched dinnerware and replacing with all white dinnerware is a no fail way to bring style into the kitchen. Bonus points if you place them all in one of your display cabinets. Just like every room looks better with white accents, food looks so much better on a crisp, clean white plate. I don't recommend cluttering up your counter but a few well-placed white decorative accents can also add to the kitchen.
In the bathroom, I am a firm believer in white towels and white bathmats. Those two things are so easy to bring in and offer a sense of hotel-like decadence to your bathroom. I also tend to add cream or white bathroom accessories such as toothbrush holders, soap dishes, and tissue holders in most bathrooms I design.
