Synonymous with “clutter,” the garage is one of the home’s biggest storage
areas—and the sight of its biggest mess.
Consider these cabinet uses:
-
Go tall. You’ll find that you’ll quickly fill up
cabinet space you didn’t think you needed. House muddy sports shoes, winter
gear, and extra cans of paint.
-
Easily transfer bulk goods, like laundry detergent and
soda, from the car to its resting space by creating a space for them in the
garage.
-
Tall cabinets also neatly store both sporting goods and
bulky or long-handled tools, like shovels and rakes. Consider installing hooks
in the rear for hanging tennis rackets and bike helmets.
-
Be sure to select hardware (both decorative and
functional) that will provide exceptional strength and performance. Drawers of
tools definitely outweigh drawers of silverware! Check the support strength
capacity of your drawer glides.
-
Assign each cabinet a particular “function”—it’ll make
cleaning up easier. Consider including cabinets and drawers for electrical
cords, car equipment (like oil and antifreeze), paints, and seasonal
decorations.
-
If you’re only occasionally crafty, consider a
fold-down workbench.
-
Whether you opt for wood or metal cabinets, be sure to
ask plenty of questions about their durability, as well as their warranty.
