Think cabinets are an open and shut case? Think again.

The 2004 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show proved that there’s a lot going on in the kitchen—and the cabinet is no exception. Our editors culled through hundreds of manufacturers to pinpoint the latest introductions and innovations for cabinetry, decorative and functional hardware, and accessories. Read on for an insider’s look at what’s heating up the kitchen this year.

Buddy up to brown
Deepen your palette with the Kaffé furniture finish by Kraftmaid. Reflecting the trend toward warmer and deeper browns, the finish’s chocolate and espresso tones impart a chic richness, perfect for urban lofts and contemporary spaces. Kaffé is one of three new “earthy” browns introduced by Kraftmaid this year. For lighter options, consider the Cashmere Glaze or Cognac finish.

Clean up your lines
Capture your contemporary spirit with the Milan door by Wellborn. Truly the building block of modern kitchen, this maple slab’s versatility works well with warm and cool contemporary designs, while natural, light, medium, pickle, divinity and midnight finishes expand your color options. For an added dose of European modernism, opt for metal flip doors to enhance the stainless steel theme and break up the right-to-left opening systems of typical cabinetry.

Emboss for elegance
Enhance your Old World style with the Floret and Patriarch embossed patterns by Canac. Inspired by hand-made European kitchen furniture, the patterns subtly enhance the heirloom look of a single piece or make a bold statement when used throughout the kitchen. The Floret design (pictured) captures the Victorian look of the alpine flower, while the Patriarch trades nature for architecture through its cross detail.

Conquer your corner
Stop scrambling for unreachable items with Corner Cabinets by Blum. This unique corner solution uses a fishtail shape to provide easy access all the way into the back corner. An ideal place to house utensils or flatware, the drawer can be compartmentalized to allow specific space for items of all sizes and features BLUMOTION soft closing.
